The Story of the Golden Buddha

In my last post I talked about how important it is for the growth of our good, to forgive and see others as non-judgmentally as possible. Again, we cannot know where anyone is coming from. We don’t know who and what has been influencing people. We don’t know what their background is.  We don’t know their pain.  We need to give each other a break and begin to see them for who they truly are in Truth. We are all expressions of the Infinite Divine One. We need to sift through the weeds, everything that’s covering up the Light, and focus the Light that is shining from underneath.   It’s like the story of the Golden Buddha.  Somewhere in Thailand, sometime between the 13th and 14th Centuries, a giant Buddha statue was fashioned from pure gold. It was, naturally, a very valuable statue.  Later in, in order to hide its value from invading forces, it was covered over with plaster.  Over the years it was forgotten about and went unnoticed for centuries. Then, one day a monk was praying at its feet and the sun hit at just the right angle and a ray of golden light from the statue hit his eye. Upon closer inspection he discovered there was a crack in the plaster and he saw – much to his delight -- the golden material shinning from under all that plaster.  He called over all his monk buddies and they carefully removed all the plaster, to reveal an amazing Golden Buddha.  That Golden Buddha is prominently displayed in a magnificent temple in Bangkok. We are all Golden Buddhas covered in a bit of plaster.  It’s up to those of us on a spiritual path to look under all the mud and perceive the gold that is the true nature of each individual.
